Things you need to know before buying Health Insurance
- Who am I purchasing the policy from? Is it a national broker, with telemarketers, located in another state? Is it a local agent? We live and work right here in Michigan and we only deal with Michigan customers. We know Michigan plans.
- When I need service, do I have a dedicated agent? How long has the person I am talking to been in the business? I have been in the Insurance business for 14 years. I will be your agent year after year. We shop all of our policies at renewal to see if there is a better plan.
- If an agent tries to sell you a plan without giving you a chance to review it, be careful. You should have the opportunity to review your plan, alone. There are many great phone salespeople around. After the plan is sold, are they there to support you?
- Is the plan I am purchasing insurance? Some companies specialize in discount plans or Mini-med plans that are not really insurance.
- What is the maximum out of pocket? What are the deductible and coinsurance combined? Is it different per individual and per family?
- Is my doctor in the Network? Don't assume that he or she is. A good agent will help you find out.
- Don't buy an insurance policy on price alone. Many good salespeople will tout a plan with a low monthly payment. Sometimes these plans, while they still are insurance, are basic plans, that don't have many of the options and coverage that most people want.
